The Royals Men’s Volleyball team won their final match of the season against Concordia University of California on Saturday, by a score of three sets to one. Despite their best efforts, the Royals finished one spot away from making the national tournament.
Needing to have finished in the top six ranked teams nationally, the Royals came in as the seventh place team. They finish their season with a 17-9 overall record under first-year head coach Steve Benson.
The team also finished the year with a bevy of accomplishments, as Benson won the Coach of the Year award in the Royals conference, Hui Ding was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year, and Martin Kreuger was selected as a First-Team All-Conference selection.
Ding was also tabbed as a Second-Team All-Conference performer, along with teammates Joshua Jordan and Devin Lofton.
Reggie Montalvo, Joshua Jordan, Colton Watson and Devin Lofton were all recognized for their work in the classroom as Academic All-Conference athletes, which is given to those student-athletes with a cumulative 3.25 overall gpa or higher.
The Royals are a young team, graduating only two seniors, Greg Prinz and Reggie Montalvo, and while their contributions on and off the court will be missed, the Royals will look to bounce back next season and finish in the top six.
